A Day in the Life of Homeschool Mama Liz

A Day in the Life of Liz, Homeschool Mama of Four

Hello!!! I’m Liz- wife to my high school sweetheart and mama to 4 kiddos. We live in the beautiful Midwest where we enjoy all four seasons immensely. Mark and I didn’t start our family with even one thought of homeschooling, but here we are… working our way through our 7th year of school. We both went to public school and had great experiences, but as the time approached to send our oldest (now 11) to school, something caused me to pause. We both began praying about how we would educate our kiddos and decided to give homeschooling a try for Ella’s preschool year. As the years passed, so did our “we will reevaluate homeschooling one year at a time” mentality. We have seen the fruit that comes from pouring into our children and it has made the ‘valleys’ completely worth it.

Good Morning, Learning Well friends!

That’s me with my sweet crew. I am an unexpected homeschool mama that loves getting to spend her days with her family. My day starts by 5:30, where I get up and try to avoid the creaks in the floor as I make my way to my coffee pot. ☺️ I spend time sipping, reading, and praying over our day… because even though I adore being with my children… much prayer is needed for me to make it through with a gentle heart.

Outside Time to Burn Some Energy

As a homeschool mama, I’ve learned how important it is for my kids to burn energy prior to sitting down to do school. Even if it’s cold outside, I bundle them up and send them out for fresh air. I find that when their bodies have been active their minds tend to focus better (especially for my son). Have you found this to be true for your family??

One-On-One Time with the Youngest Learners

Get the 6 Secrets to a Simpler Mom Life

Our day starts off at 8:30 when I sit down with the little girls for about an hour of uninterrupted time. My older two work independently as I do this. If they have questions, they move on until it’s their block of time to work with me. ☺️ One of my favorite things to do is to sit with my little ones. I love working through things that seem so simple, like phonics, yet watch as it opens up a whole new world to a young learner.

Fostering a Love of Reading

Reading is a HUGE part of our day/school routine, and can I be honest??? I have never been someone who enjoys reading. With that said, I have been determined to raise children who have a love for reading, so I make it an exciting part of our day and use it as a time to snuggle with each kiddo. I’ve found that through this experience, I’ve grown to love reading along with my children.

Independant Play Time

When it’s time to move on and help the big kids, my little girls read and play quietly. They can usually be found up in their bedroom. Sneaking up on them and peeking in is one of my favorite things to do.

Table Time with the Oldest Learners

Yep, this photo is from last fall (look at that green grass and those colorful trees… spring, come quick!), but it’s a scene that repeats itself every school day.

Allowing Time to Pursue Passions

One of the best parts of homeschooling is allowing them to spend time doing the things they love. Ella wants to own a cafe someday, so she spends time learning her way around our kitchen. Here she is, making her own cookie birthday cake.

Thank you so much to Liz for sharing your family’s day with us!
